What Makes This Smoothie Gut Healthy?

Gut Healthy Protein Smoothie layered with yogurt

The most gut health benefits in this smoothie come from the collagen and yogurt! But other benefits come from the fiber in the fruits and chia.

Here’s an overview of how this smoothie supports gut health:

  • Blueberries: Rich in antioxidants and fiber, blueberries can help in maintaining a healthy gut microbiota and promote digestive health. (Source)
  • Collagen Peptides Powder: Collagen supports the lining of the digestive tract, which can help in healing and sealing the gut, potentially preventing leaky gut syndrome. (Source)
  • Chia Seeds: High in fiber, chia seeds help promote bowel regularity and healthy stool. Their gel-forming property can also be soothing for the gut. (Source)
  • Greek Yogurt: Packed with probiotics, unsweetened Greek yogurt can balance the gut microbiome, enhancing gut health and supporting immune function. (Source)

I suffer with IBS and skin problems, but when I started taking collagen for a month – my skin cleared and my IBS flare-ups eased.

At first, I started taking it in my coffee, but then I decided to throw it in my morning IBS-friendly smoothie.

The collagen I buy is unflavoured and doesn’t impact the taste of the smoothies at all.

Collagen powder is also really high in protein – 18g per serving!

This gut-healthy smoothie itself contains a whopping 28g of protein!

I cannot recommend it enough, get yourself some collagen powder and improve your digestion, skin, and hair!

Recipe Variations And Smoothie Notes

Gut Healthy Protein Smoothie

The smoothie can easily be customized.

You can experiment with your own variations, or try some of my suggestions below:

  1. The Yogurt: Use kefir instead of yogurt. It contains more protein and probiotics than yogurt.
  2. The Berries: You can swap the blueberries for another berry of choice; raspberries or strawberries for example.
  3. The Seeds: Swap the chia seeds for flaxseeds or oats.
  4. The Dates: If you don’t like dates, you can add 1/2 banana or another sweet fruit to sweeten the smoothie naturally.

The Equipment:

I’ve personally only ever used a Nutribulelt 600 to make this smoothie.

But, If you own a high speed blender like a Ninja or a Vitamix, the smoothie should work fine.
