Blueberry Beetroot Smoothie Benefits
This beet smoothie is not only delicious, but it’s also dairy-free and packed with nutrients.
One of my favorite things about this smoothie is how quickly it is to make, and how light it is on my stomach.
When I am having a snack, I don’t like having anything heavy. If you are like me, then this smoothie is ideal.

Blueberry Beetroot Smoothie Ingredients
Apart from the two main ingredients consisting of blueberries and beets, I included additional ingredients that not only enhanced the health benefits but the flavor too.
So, here are the ingredients used in this beetroot blueberry shake:
#1. Beetroot
I used raw beetroot in the recipe, but you can use steamed unflavored beetroot too. Raw beetroot can be very messy to work with because it colors your hands and chopping board.
My hands are still pink as I write this. But there are benefits to using raw beetroot, so I recommend that you use raw beetroot.
#2. Blueberries
I used frozen blueberries in this beetroot smoothie, because they help thicken the smoothie, and also bring freshness to the drink too.
If you don’t have frozen blueberries, you can use fresh blueberries, but add 3-4 cubes of ice in your blender, so you can achieve the same thickness and freshness.
#3. Banana
Blueberries alone aren’t enough to sweeten the smoothie and cut down the strong beetroot flavor.
You don’t want to end up with a smoothie that just tastes like beetroot. Banana is quite strong in flavor, which counterbalances the earthy beet.
#4. Spinach
Spinach offers an abundance of benefits and also enhances digestive support benefits, thanks to its high fiber content.
Furthermore, spinach for a leafy green is also very high in protein, giving the smoothie a natural plant-based source of protein.
#5. Coconut Water
When I think of an ideal smoothie base for beetroot smoothies, coconut water always comes to mind.
I have made numerous beetroot smoothies, and the one liquid that works best is coconut water.
Now, coconut water is sometimes not easy to find in the grocery store, so if that’s the case, you can also use coconut milk, preferably from a carton, since it’s lower in calories.
Smoothie Variations & Recipe Notes:
You can easily customize this smoothie, should you want to.
Some variations I have personally tried and loved include:
- No Banana: If you don’t like bananas, don’t worry, you can swap them for mango or pineapple.
- The Seeds: No chia seeds? Use other seeds or oats instead. I once tried adding nut butter too, which I liked, but it gave the smoothie a strong nutty flavor.
- Protein Boost: Add a scoop of protein powder or 1/2 cup of yogurt if you are not dairy-free.
- The Base: Swap the coconut water for either plain water or dairy-free milk such as almond or oat. Just make sure you use unsweetened.

The comparability of the bleders very much depends on what type of beet you use.
If you use cooked beet, all the blenders on the list are suitable for this recipe.
However, if you use raw beet, you will need a high-speed blender. Although my Nutribullet did a fantastic job with a raw beet.
