Optional Smoothie Recipe Changes

the step by step how to make a cottage cheese blueberry smoothie

I love experimenting with different flavors combinations and ingredients.

I tested quite a lot of variations of this cottage cheese berry smoothie, probably around 12, but a lot of them weren’t that good.

So, I will only share some variations that I found just as tasty.

The Ingredients:

There are so many swaps you can make with the ingredients used for this recipe.

I understand that not everybody has the same ingredients as me, so here are some options:

  1. Swap The Spinach For Kale Or Collard Greens.
  2. Swap The Chia Seeds For Oats, Flaxseeds, Nut Butter, Or Even 1/4 Avocado.
  3. Substitute The Dairy-Free Milk For Dairy Milk, Or Use Coconut Water.
  4. Use Flavored Cottage Cheese For Extra Sweetness.

Big Flavor Changes:

optional changes to Blueberry Cottage Cheese Smoothie

One of my personal favorite changes to this recipe was making it chocolate-flavored!

  1. Chocolate Flavored: For 12 extra calories, you can make this smoothie chocolate flavored. Simply add 1 tablespoon of cocoa powder to the recipe.
  2. Protein Packed: Add a scoop of protein powder, like chocolate or vanilla flavored for 20-25g extra protein.
  3. Tropical Infusion: Use coconut milk as the base of your smoothie. You can even swap the berries for mango or pineapple.
  4. Nutty Delight: Swap the chia seeds for almond butter, or add an extra tablespoon of nut butter along with your chia seeds.

Equipment For The Recipe:

Nutribullet

I tested this recipe using 8 different blenders.

While most blenders worked just fine, there was 1 that didn’t:

Blender Type Suitability
Nutribullet 600
Vitamix Blender Propel 510
BlendJet 4000mAh x
Ninja Blender BL610
Oster 6640 Blender
Hamilton Beach 58148A Blender
AMZChef Blender 1800 W
Wamife Blender

Blendjet struggled to blend the smoothie because of the lack of liquid in my recipe.

The smoothie as you can see is quite thick. Blendjet cannot blend well without adding too much liquid.

I personally preferred to use Nutribullet for this recipe. It’s just convenient and easy to clean for a single-serving smoothie.
