Why You Will Love This Cherry Chocolate Smoothie Bowl

Chocolate and cherries are a popular combination, especially when it comes to indulgence and romance.

For starters, this smoothie bowl tastes like dessert, but it also contains vitamins and nutrients, which are so good for you.

It’s also a wonderful weekend activity to do with a loved one.

Other reasons why I think you will love this cherry smoothie bowl include:

  1. Antioxidant-Rich: Cherries and cocoa powder are high in antioxidants.
  2. Energy Boosting: With natural sugars from the fruit and sustaining energy from the oats and plant milk, this smoothie bowl is perfect for providing a quick energy boost.
  3. Satisfying and Filling: The inclusion of fiber from the fruits and oats, along with protein from the yogurt and nut butter, makes this smoothie bowl both filling and satisfying.
  4. Nutrient-Dense: Loaded with vitamins and minerals such as Vitamin C from the cherries, calcium from the plant milk, and iron from the cocoa powder, this smoothie bowl is not only tasty but also very nutritious.
  5. Versatile and Customizable: Easily adaptable to dietary preferences or restrictions, you can switch out ingredients to make it vegan, dairy-free, or adjust the sweetness level according to taste.
  6. Perfect for Any Time of Day: Ideal as a hearty breakfast, a refreshing snack, or even a healthful dessert, this smoothie bowl fits well any time of the day.
  7. Simple to Make: Quick and easy to prepare, requiring only a blender and a few minutes to create something that’s both appealing and nourishing.
  8. Visually Appealing: With a rich chocolate color complemented by vibrant cherries, it’s as beautiful as it is delicious, making it a joy to serve and eat.

Cherry Smoothie Bowl Variations & Recipe Notes:

Some variations of this recipe that you could try are listed below, but you can also experiment on your own!

  • Vegan Friendly: Use vegan yogurt instead of dairy yogurt to make this smoothie vegan, and ensure you use vegan chocolate too.
  • Protein Boost: Incorporate a scoop of vanilla or chocolate protein powder to increase the protein content.
  • Tropical Touch: Swap almond milk for coconut milk to enhance the tropical flavor.
  • Superfood Boost: Stir in a tablespoon of flaxseeds or hemp seeds for added fiber and nutrients. You can also add a teaspoon of matcha powder for caffeine and more antioxidants.
  • Green Power: Blend in a handful of baby spinach or kale without impacting the taste.

Top Smoothie Bowl-Making Tips:

  1. Consistency: Adjust the thickness of your smoothie bowl by varying the amount of plant milk. Use less milk for a thicker, spoonable texture, or add more if you prefer a more runny smoothie. For a thicker smoothie bowl, you will need a high-speed blender though.
  2. Frozen Fruit Is a Must: Frozen cherries and raspberries are a must. If you don’t have frozen fruit, the smoothie bowl recipe won’t work.
  3. Serve Immediately: Make sure you eat the smoothie as soon as it’s served. The longer it ‘sits’ the warmer it gets and loses it’s icy taste.
  4. If Using a Food Processor: It’s crucial that you stop a few times and scrape off the sides for an even blend.
  5. Choose Your Toppings: Get creative with toppings to add texture and flavor. Consider using coconut flakes, cacao nibs, sliced bananas, or a drizzle of honey.
  6. Chill Your Bowl: Place your serving bowl in the freezer for a few minutes before adding your smoothie mixture. This helps keep everything cool and thick, especially on warm days.

My Suggested Smoothie Bowl Toppings

Some toppings that work well with this cherry and chocolate smoothie bowl include:

  • Sliced Fresh Fruit (Banana, berries, cherries, strawberries, etc)
  • Cacao Nibs
  • Melted Chocolate
  • Granola

Feel free to experiment with other toppings too.

The Equipment:

Blender Type Suitability:
Nutribullet
Vitamix Blender
BlendJet X
Ninja Blender
Oster Blender X
Hamilton Blender
AMZChef Blender X
Wamife Blender X
Ninja Food Processor
Kitchen Aid Food Chopper X
Hamilton Beach Food Processor

I mostly make this smoothie bowl with my Nutribullet 900 series, and it does a great job.

However, some other options that work with this recipe are included above.

For an extra thick smoothie, I recommend that you use a high-speed quality blender such as a Vitamix.

However, this smoothie is quite thick as it is, so I don’t think you will want it any thicker.
