Optional Recipe Customizations & Smoothie Notes

There are many different ways to customize this smoothie to suit your preferences or taste.

For example, I love swapping the fruit juice for another type, such as apple juice, or sometimes omit it for a less-sugary version, such as dairy-free milk or coconut water.

Here are some ideas:

  1. Add Protein: Incorporate 1/2 cup of unsweetened yogurt for a protein-rich drink, making this smoothie suitable for breakfast. You can also add protein powder. A scoop is plenty.
  2. Green Boost: Add 1-2 handfuls of leafy greens such as spinach or kale for extra nutritious goodness. They are basically tasteless, and won’t impact the flavor of the smoothie.
  3. Omega-3s & Fiber Boost: Add a tablespoon of chia seeds for extra goodness, while also thickening the smoothie.
  4. Swap The Smoothie Base: For a less sugary smoothie, use coconut water or almond milk instead of orange juice.
  5. Cut Through The Sweetness: Squeeze in a lemon or lime for a tangy twist, as well as cut through the sweetness of the orange juice.
  6. Swap The Apple: You can use mango, pineapple, or even a different type of berry instead of apple, should you want to.
