Recipe Variations And Notes

If you like experimenting, feel free to swap ingredients, or add even extra ingredients as you wish!

Alternatively, try some of my suggestions:

  1. Protein Boost: If you are not dairy-free, add 1/2 cup of yogurt or a scoop of protein powder!
  2. Add Greens: Add a handful of spinach, or for a morning boost, a teaspoon of matcha powder.
  3. Reduce The Sugar: Instead of orange juice, use coconut water or dairy-free milk of choice. Just make sure it’s unsweetened!
  4. Nutty Goodness: Keep or swap the chia seeds for a tablespoon of nut butter. I recommend almond butter.
  5. Banana Version: Swap the apple for a ripe banana.

Recipe Equipment:

Blender Type Suitability
Nutribullet 600
Vitamix Blender Propel 510
BlendJet 4000mAh x
Ninja Blender BL610
Oster 6640 Blender
Hamilton Beach 58148A Blender
AMZChef Blender 1800 W
Wamife Blender

The smoothie is relatively easy to blend, even with a low-speed blender. If possible, avoid the BlendJet 4000mAh though.

I have tried a few times making this smoothie with it, and it doesn’t come out as good as other blenders.

Storing The Smoothie

  • Refrigeration: If you have leftover smoothie or want to prepare it in advance, you can store it in the refrigerator. Use an airtight container or a mason jar with a lid to keep it fresh. It’s best consumed within 24 hours, as the flavors begin to diminish over time.
  • Freezing: For longer storage, freezing is an excellent option. Pour the smoothie into an ice cube tray or freezer-safe containers. Once frozen, you can transfer the smoothie cubes into a freezer bag for easy access. When you’re ready to enjoy, simply blend the smoothie cubes with a little additional liquid (like water, coconut water, or additional orange juice) to achieve the desired consistency. This method can keep the smoothie fresh for up to 3 months.
  • Tip – Stir Before Serving: Whether stored in the fridge or thawed from the freezer, give your smoothie a good stir or shake before serving, as separation often occurs.
