Revitalize with my Detox Pineapple Grapefruit Smoothie. A refreshing blend designed to invigorate and cleanse, combining the tropical sweetness of pineapple with the citrusy zing of grapefruit.

  • Total Time: 5 minutes
  • Yield: 1 1x

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 cup of frozen pineapple
  • 1/2 grapefruit (peeled, seeds removed)
  • 1 handful of kale (washed)
  • 1 cup of coconut water

Instructions

  1. Peel the grapefruit, and try to remove as much of the white surroundings as possible, as they are quite bitter.
  2. Add all the ingredients to a high-speed blender or a Nutribullet, starting with the pineapple first, followed by the rest of the ingredients.
  3. Blend the smoothie for 2-3 minutes (no longer, otherwise it may get foamy).
  4. Serve and enjoy!
  5. *You can serve it over ice, for extra freshness!

Notes

Best Time To Drink This Pineapple & Grapefruit Smoothie

Pineapple Grapefruit Smoothie

The best time to drink this pineapple detox drink with grapefruit is for breakfast, on an empty stomach.

Your body will be able to obtain the most nutrients and process the smoothie best if it’s the only food in the stomach.

I always, always drink my detox smoothies in the morning. I recommend that you do too!

Side Note: If you do not typically eat or drink anything for breakfast, drink this smoothie just before bed. Ensure you eat your last meal at 6 pm at the latest!

More Benefits Of The Smoothie

Aiding the detox in your body is one of the main benefits of this smoothie.

However, since the smoothie contains an array of fresh healthy ingredients, they offer much more than just detox benefits.

More benefits of this minimal ingredients detox smoothie include:

  • Boosts Immunity: High vitamin C content from pineapple and grapefruit supports immune health.
  • Hydration: The coconut water as the base of the drink helps keep you hydrated.
  • Antioxidant-rich: Kale and grapefruit are both rich in antioxidants.
  • Supports Digestion: Kale and pineapple contribute to digestive health. Pineapple contains an enzyme called bromelain.

Recipe Variations

Missing an ingredient? Fancying something different?

Whatever the case is, I have personally tested numerous different versions of this smoothie.

I recently made a pineapple detox smoothie with cucumber, and I loved the combo between these two ingredients.

One of the variations of this smoothie contains cucumber!

Here they are:

#1. Add Cucumber

Cucumber is wonderful at cleansing your body from toxins

I added the cucumber as an addition to the ingredients list. I added 1/4 cup of diced cucumber.

#2. Add Some Protein

The smoothie isn’t particularly filling if you make it as per the recipe listed.

The reason for this is the lack of protein.

To make the smoothie more filling if you are not vegan, add 1/2 cup of Greek yogurt.

#3.  Change The Fruit

While pineapple in my opinion works best in this smoothie, you can substitute it for mango instead.

Make sure you use frozen mango though!

My Recipe Pro Tip:

I know it’s very tempting to use fruit juice, but avoid using fruit juice in your detox smoothie!

You will not get any benefits from using a grapefruit or pineapple juice from a concentrate, or any other kind.

You want to use the whole fruit.
