Are Matcha Smoothies Good For You?

Matcha has so many health benefits, from weight loss to antioxidants, and it is consumed by many health-conscious individuals.

Most smoothies, especially homemade smoothies are often nutrient-packed as it is, when you add matcha to them, you only enhance the health benefits of the smoothie.

Here’s a more thorough list of the benefits of adding matcha to your smoothies:

  • Adds antioxidant properties to your smoothies.
  • May aid weight loss by boosting your metabolism.
  • Adds detox properties, by assisting the liver and the detoxification of your body.
  • Adds a healthy dose of caffeine which boosts your energy and brain power.
  • Matcha helps promote heart health, so adding it to your smoothies is a great way to keep your heart healthy.

Ingredients Needed To Make a Avocado Matcha Smoothie

Matcha is quite a strong-tasting ingredient to add to your smoothie. This is why the ingredient selection is very important; you don’t want to taste bitter matcha in your smoothie.

You want the matcha flavor to come through, but you don’t want it overpowering.

Here are the ingredients I used to make this  green smoothie with matcha that creates a perfectly balanced smoothie:

#1. Matcha Powder

Matcha Powder

There are many different types of matcha and ways to use it in your smoothies.

I personally love matcha powder, because I can control how much I put and adjust the taste as needed.

If you scroll down a bit, I have left some other options for you that allow you to use matcha in different forms to make this matcha drink.

#2. Frozen Mango

Frozen Mango

Mango and matcha work so well together. Mango has a very distinctive taste, and it’s also quite sweet, which helps cut through the bitterness of the matcha.

I used frozen mango because frozen fruit helps thicken smoothies, but it also adds a very cooling element, which makes smoothies a lot more refreshing!

#3. Chia Seeds

Chia Seeds

Chia seeds are incredibly nutritious, they contain so many nutrients. They are rich in fiber and protein, which help make your smoothies filling.

Feeling full can help with weight loss, since you are less likely to overeat throughout the day, leading to a calorie deficit.

#4. Lemon Juice

Lemon Juice

I always use freshly squeezed lemon juice, avoid using lemon juice from a bottle, because it’s not technically real lemon juice, and you won’t get the benefits you want from it.

The use of lemon in this matcha beverage helps cut through the bitterness of the green tea, which helps balance out the taste.

#5. Vanilla Almond Milk

Vanilla Almond Milk

Almond milk works so well with matcha. If you have ever had a matcha latte before, using almond milk with your matcha simply creates the ultimate drink.

The use of almond milk also keeps this avocado smoothie totally dairy-free and vegan friendly!

Matcha Smoothie Recipe Variations

There are many different variations of this weight loss matcha smoothie; for example, you can use a different type of green tea, that isn’t a powdered version, so let me give you some options:

  • For a matcha avocado spinach smoothie, you can add a handful of spinach or kale in the blender along with the other ingredients.
  • If you like your smoothies sweeter, there are ways to sweeten your smoothies, for example, by adding a teaspoon of maple or agave syrup.
  • For a nut-free recipe, instead of almond milk, either use oat milk or coconut milk instead.
  • If you don’t have chia seeds, you can use flaxseeds, or a tablespoon of nut butter of choice if you don’t mind nuts.
  • If you don’t have a matcha powder, you can brew 100ml/3.5 fluid ounce of green tea from a tea bag, and cool it completely. Then add it to your blender along with the rest of the ingredients.
