Try a calculator to figure out the nutrients you need per day, such as the one provided by eatforhealth.gov.au.
It is important that prior to consuming any supplements think first about your overall diet.
Smoothies that are low in fiber and high in protein may benefit from Metamucil if you need more fiber in your diet.
Can You Have Too Much Fiber?
Be cautious of consuming too much fiber or Metamucil.
Excessive fiber in your diet can cause bloating, gas, or GI discomfort as verywellhealth.com states.
Similarly, Metamucil also has some side effects that are worth being aware of. If you experience any side effects stop taking Metamucil and visit your doctor.
The body requires both soluble and insoluble fiber, and Metamucil is a soluble fiber.
Soluble fibers break down in the water in the digestive system, making a gel and creating softer stools as medicalnewstoday.com states.
This means that while we usually associate fiber with adding bulk to stools, Metamucil works against constipation.
So, if you are taking Metamucil to fight constipation try to avoid adding insoluble fibers to your smoothies, as this may work against the soluble fibers in the supplement.
