How I Gained Weight Drinking Smoothies

images of before and after gaining weight

From weighing 99 pounds to weighing 114.64 pounds within 3 months, by drinking weight gain smoothies.

Here’s how I did it:

  1. Consumed 1 weight gain smoothie a day, combined with an increased calorie consumption.
  2. I consumed a daily weight gain smoothie for 2 weeks straight, with a 1-week breakfast afterward, then another 2 weeks of weight gain smoothie consumption.
  3. I went to the gym 2-3 days a week. Mainly to avoid gaining pure fat.

I did this for 3 months and gained a healthy amount of weight and muscle.

How To Use Smoothies For Weight Gain

Side shot of a tall glass filled with thick Weight Gain Smoothie

One of the biggest mistakes most people make when they drink weight gain smoothies is that they use them as meal replacements.

Weight gain shakes are very filling, so when you consume them for breakfast, or your lunch, you will feel very full, and you will find it very hard to eat more later.

Which is why I used the smoothies to gain weight by drinking them as a snack!

Have your usual 3 meals, and 1 weight gain smoothie in between as a snack.

This will help you ramp up the calories.

Smoothie Variations & Tips

Weight Gain Smoothie

I have been developing weight gain smoothie recipes for the past 2 years.

I have created some beast recipes – from 3000 calorie shakes to 2000 calorie smoothies and 1000 calorie smoothies.

During the development process of any smoothie, a lot of different ingredients are tested.

So, if you want to change the flavor a bit, or want to make it suitable for your dietary needs, here are some variations you could try:

  1. Chocolate Flavored: Add an extra 12 calories to your smoothie by incorporating 1 tablespoon of cocoa powder along with the other ingredients listed.
  2. Nut-Free Variation: Swap the peanut butter in the recipe for 1 medium-sized whole avocado.
  3. Make a Vegan Weight Gain Smoothie: The only ingredient you will need to change to make this recipe vegan is the protein powder. I recommend that you use pea protein powder.
  4. Increase The Calories Per Serving: The calories per serving currently stand at 900. To increase the calories, instead of milk, use heavy cream, or full-fat coconut milk from a can.

Smoothie Tips:

My top tips for making a weight-gain smoothie include:

  • The Avocado: Make sure the avocado is fully ripe for a creamier texture and easier blending.
  • Hydrate The Chia Seeds: Soak chia seeds in a little water for a few minutes before adding to the blender. This makes them gel up and blend more smoothly into the smoothie.
  • Protein Powder Choices: If you have options, select a protein powder flavor that complements the peanut butter and banana, like vanilla or chocolate.
  • Add The Frozen
  • Blend to Desired Consistency: Start blending at a lower speed to mix the ingredients and then increase to high speed for a smooth texture. If the smoothie is too thick, add a bit more milk until you reach your preferred consistency.

Blender Compatability:

As you can see based on the images, the smoothie is quite thick, which means not every blender is suitable for this recipe.

Blender Type Suitability for Smoothie
Nutribullet
Vitamix Blender
BlendJet X
Ninja Blender
Oster Blender X
Hamilton Blender 1 HP (HBB908R) X
AMZChef Blender
Wamife Blender

Other types of blenders not included in this list, have not been tested with this recipe.

Smoothie FAQs:

Are There Any Substitutions For Peanut Butter In The Recipe For Those With Allergies?

Substitute with sunflower seed butter, or tahini for similar nutritional value. Alternatively, you can use 2 tablespoons of thick yogurt.

How Can I Adjust the Calorie Content If I Want a Less Salorie-Dense Smoothie?

Replace full-fat milk with a lower fat milk or unsweetened almond milk, which are lower in calories yet still provide a creamy base. Cut back on the amount of peanut butter. You can also use half the quantity of peanut butter listed in the recipe.

Is This Weight Gain Smoothie Suitable For Kids?

Yes, this weight gain smoothie is generally suitable for kids as it's packed with natural and nutritious ingredients. However, it's important to consider portion sizes appropriate for a child's dietary needs. Additionally, always consult with your healthcare provider or a pediatric dietitian before introducing any new dietary changes, especially for weight gain purposes, to ensure it aligns with your child's health requirements and nutritional needs.

How Can I Store The Leftover Smoothie?

Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 24 hours. Shake well before drinking.
