Green Broccoli Smoothie

Have you ever thought of adding broccoli to your smoothies?

Adding veggies to smoothies is becoming more and more popular, as people are trying to cut down on sugar, even fruit sugar!

Vegetables aren’t just for soups or salads, they have just as many health benefits as fruit does.

This broccoli smoothie is also suitable for vegans and people who are dairy-free.

Broccoli Smoothie Benefits

Most vegetable smoothies are typically low in sugar, and higher in protein. This broccoli smoothie is the same.

But that’s not all. This smoothie has so much more to offer, especially when it comes to vitamins and minerals.

Here’s an overview:

  • Rich in Nutrients: Provides a wide range of vitamins and minerals, including Vitamin C, Vitamin K, Calcium, and Manganese, supporting overall health and well-being.
  • Supports Immune Function: The high Vitamin C content from broccoli, pineapple, and spinach boosts the immune system.
  • Promotes Digestive Health: High in dietary fiber, this smoothie aids in digestion and can help prevent constipation, promoting a healthy digestive tract.
  • Supports Bone Health: With ingredients rich in Calcium and Vitamin K, this smoothie contributes to strong bones.
  • Heart-Healthy Fats: Avocado provides monounsaturated fats, which are beneficial for heart health and can help lower bad cholesterol levels.
  • Anti-inflammatory Properties: Ingredients like spinach and broccoli have anti-inflammatory effects.

Smoothie Variations & Recipe Notes

There are several ways to customize this smoothie, should you need to or want to.

I will leave some options that I have personally tried, but if you have other ideas, feel free to try them out!

  1. Make The Smoothie Sweeter: You can either add another type of fruit, such as a small banana, or a tablespoon of maple syrup.
  2. No Avocado: If you don’t like avocados (one of my friends doesn’t) substitute it for a small banana, 1/3 cup of tofu, or nut butter.
  3. Swap The Greens: Instead of spinach, you can use kale or watercress.
  4. Protein Boost: If you are not dairy-free, add 1/2 cup of unsweetened yogurt or cottage cheese. Alternatively, use 1/2 cup of silken tofu.

Equipment:

Blender Type Suitability
Nutribullet 600
Vitamix Blender Propel 510
BlendJet 4000mAh
Ninja Blender BL610
Oster 6640 Blender
Hamilton Beach 58148A Blender
AMZChef Blender 1800 W
Wamife Blender

If using cooked broccoli as my recipe states, the smoothie can easily be blended even by a lower-speed blender.

However, when I tried blending raw broccoli, the BlendJet 4000mAh struggled, which is why I do not recommend it.

Recipe FAQs:

How Do I Prepare a Whole Broccoli For This Smoothie?

First, wash the broccoli thoroughly. Then, cut off the florets from the stem. You can steam the florets for about 5 minutes until they're bright green and tender. Use 1/2 cup of these steamed cooled florets for the smoothie.

Can I Use Raw Broccoli Instead Of Steamed?

Yes, you can use raw broccoli, but steaming it slightly helps to soften the fibers and can make the smoothie texture smoother. Plus, steaming might make it easier to digest for some people.

What Can I Use Instead of Pineapple If I Don't Like It?

Mango or peach chunks make great substitutes for pineapple, offering a similar sweetness and texture. Adjust the amount to suit your taste preferences.
