Smoothie Variations & Recipe Notes

Celery Cucumber Smoothie being poured into a glass cup

Whether you are missing an ingredient, or simply like to change things up, you could try some of my tested variations of this recipe.

All of these suggested variations are so tasty and won’t disappoint!

  1. Tangy Twist: Squeeze in 1/2 a lime or lemon juice for a tasty tangy twist that cuts through the sweetness of pineapple beautifully.
  2. Use Frozen Kale: Or other leafy greens of choice. A nest of frozen kale can not only make the smoothie a lot more refreshing but much thicker too.
  3. Nut Butter Instead Of Seeds: If nut butter is all you have at home, swap the chia seeds for nut butter, preferably cashew butter, or almond butter!
  4. More Sweetness: The smoothie is purely sweetened from the pineapple, which makes the smoothie subtle in sweetness. For a sweeter smoothie, add 1 teaspoon of honey or agave syrup!
  5. Yogurt For Protein & Creaminess: Adding 1/2 cup of yogurt to your smoothie not only adds creaminess but protein too!

Smoothie Tips:

  • Add Soft Ingredients First: Add the cucumber, kale, and coconut milk first to your blender, which helps the blending process.
  • Blend For Longer: The celery is hard to break down, even if you use a high-speed blender, which is why you may need to blend longer than usual. 3-4 minutes is plenty.
  • Nutribullet For a Single-Serving Smoothie: If you are making a single-serving smoothie, use a Nutribullet, for more than 1 serving, use a higher-capacity blender.
  • Drink The Smoothie As Soon As It’s Blended: Since the smoothie contains frozen ingredients, it’s best to drink it as soon as it’s blended, otherwise the texture will change as it warms.

This celery cucumber smoothie is healthier than celery juice, because it contains many more nutrients such as fiber, which are often stripped away when celery is juiced. The smoothie also contains an array of other ingredients, which also contribute to health benefits.

Can I Use Other Plant Milk Instead Of Coconut Milk?

Yes, you can use unsweetened almond milk or oat milk instead of coconut milk, You can also coconut water too, if that's what you have at home.
