Recipe Variations
Now, I want to leave room for you to make changes that fit your taste or the ingredients available to you right now at your home.
- For a berry version, you can add 1/2 cup fresh or frozen berries of choice to your blender along with the other ingredients listed.
- If you don’t like or have avocado, you can use mango, or pineapple instead of avocado. For a low-sugar avocado substitute, use 1/2 cup of Greek yogurt.
- The spinach can be substituted for kale or other leafy greens you like more.
- You can also use frozen watermelon pieces if you like thicker smoothies.

The smoothie is blended easily with most blenders. I tested the smoothie with 8 different blenders.
Only the BlendJet 4000mAh didn’t do a particularly good job, so I suggest you avoid it for this recipe.
Storing The Smoothie
This smoothie doesn’t store very well. It’s because it combines frozen fruit, but most importantly, it contains watery fruit (the watermelon).
I did an experiment recently where tested how long smoothies last in the fridge, and the melon smoothie didn’t last long.
So I recommend that you consume this smoothie within 3-6 hours. Just make sure you refrigerate it as soon as it’s blended though!
