How This Smoothie Helps With Acid Reflux

Acid Reflux remedy Smoothie

This stomach soothing smoothie has not only been personally tested on me, but it also contains ingredients that are designed to help.

Whenever I have symptoms of acid reflux, I make this smoothie, and within an hour, I feel so much better.

Here is an overview of how this smoothie helps soothe acid reflux:

  • Alkalizing Effect: The smoothie has alkalizing properties, which can help neutralize stomach acid, reducing reflux symptoms. (Source)
  • Natural Antacid Properties: Bananas serve as a natural antacid, soothing the stomach lining and mitigating the discomfort associated with acid reflux. (Source)
  • Anti-Inflammatory: Ginger has anti-inflammatory properties that can reduce inflammation in the esophagus and stomach, potentially easing the symptoms of acid reflux. (Source)
  • Hydration: The high water content from cucumber and the herbal tea base helps dilute and weaken stomach acid, reducing acid reflux episodes.
  • Soothing Properties: Herbal tea, especially when caffeine-free, has a soothing effect on the gastrointestinal tract, decreasing the acid reflux symptoms.

If you find that this smoothie helps you with GERD, I recommend that you also try my anti-nausea smoothie and my smoothie when you have diarrhea!

Smoothie Variations & Recipe Notes

If some of the ingredients are not to your liking, there are some swaps you can make.

These consist of:

  1. No Banana: Swap the banana for melon, preferably frozen. If you don’t have frozen melon, fresh is fine, but you will need to reduce the herbal tea to 1/2 cup.
  2. The Base: Instead of herbal tea, you can use low-fat dairy milk. Milk has soothing effects. But do note that if you are dairy-free, this option won’t be suitable.
  3. The Oats: You can substitute the oats for chia seeds, or a handful of nuts.
  4. The Ginger: If you don’t have ginger, use 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar.

The Equipment:

Blender Type Suitability
Nutribullet 600
Vitamix Blender Propel 510
BlendJet 4000mAh
Ninja Blender BL610
Oster 6640 Blender
Hamilton Beach 58148A Blender
AMZChef Blender 1800 W
Wamife Blender

The good news about the equipment for this recipe is the fact that you can make this smoothie using a low-speed cheap blender if that’s all you have at home.

The higher the speed of the blender, the better, of course, but the smoothie came out just fine with my lower-speed blenders.
