How Is This Smoothie Alcohol Detoxing?
Hangover occurs often due to dehydration. One of the main benefits of this smoothie its hydrating properties and richness in nutrients.
When I developed this alcohol detox juice, I researched carefully what ingredients can help detox and relieve the symptoms of an alcohol binge.
So, when it comes to why this smoothie can help with detoxing your body, is all thanks to the careful ingredient selection!
Here’s a breakdown of how each ingredient used in the recipe contributes to detoxing your body from booze:
- Banana: Rich in potassium, bananas can help replenish electrolytes that may be depleted due to alcohol consumption. Banana also contain vitamins and fiber that support overall health.
- Orange: Oranges are a good source of vitamin C, which is an antioxidant. Antioxidants can help neutralize free radicals in the body, potentially reducing oxidative stress caused by alcohol.
- Lemon Juice: Lemon juice is also high in vitamin C and has detoxifying properties. It may support the liver in its natural detoxification processes.
- Spinach: Spinach is a nutrient-dense leafy green that provides vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. It contains compounds that may support liver function.
- Spirulina: Spirulina is a type of blue-green algae rich in nutrients, including vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. It may have anti-inflammatory and detoxifying effects.
- Coconut Water: Coconut water is hydrating and contains electrolytes, which can be beneficial if you’ve experienced dehydration due to alcohol consumption. It’s a natural source of hydration without added sugars or artificial ingredients.
Optional Ingredient Swaps And Changes To The Recipe
This hangover relieving smoothie can be adjusted slightly, depending on the type of ingredients you have available to work with.
If possible though, try to keep the ingredients the same, maybe go for a walk and do some shopping.
Going for a walk can make you feel better. A lot of people make the mistake of just laying in there bed after a long night of drinking.
But, if want to use some of the ingredients already at your home, here are some ingredient swaps you can make, and still yield the detox properties:
- Instead of lemon juice you can substitute it for lime juice if that’s what you have at home.
- Instead of using a fresh orange, you can opt for orange juice as a substitute. The equivalent replacement quantity is 1/3 cup of orange juice.
- The spinach in the recipe can be substituted for other leafy green you have. Even frozen greens can work.
- The spirulina powder can be replaced for other green powders you have at home. Matcha powder for example is a good choice.
- Coconut water can be substituted for plain cold water. I have made this alcohol detox drink recipe numerous times, and whenever I don’t have coconut water at home, I simply use plain water.
