Collagen Smoothie Benefits

This smoothie for hair, nails, and skin has many other benefits than just these 3.

It contains antioxidants from blueberries, fiber, minerals, vitamins and so much more.

Here’s an overview of the benefits of this Vital Protein collagen smoothie:

  • Skin Health:
    • Hydration: Coconut water provides excellent hydration, essential for keeping the skin moist and supple. (Source)
    • Collagen Production: The collagen peptides can support skin elasticity and hydration, reducing wrinkles and dryness. (Source)
    • Antioxidant Protection: Blueberries are rich in antioxidants, which help combat oxidative stress and may reduce signs of aging. (Source)
    • Vitamin C: Both pineapple and spinach/kale are high in Vitamin C, necessary for collagen synthesis and skin repair. (Source)
  • Nail Health:
    • Collagen peptides provide amino acids necessary for nail structure and strength.
    • Vitamin C in blueberries, pineapple, and leafy greens supports collagen production, crucial for nail strength.
  • Digestive Health:
    • Fiber Content: Chia seeds, blueberries, and spinach/kale provide dietary fiber, which can help regulate digestion and support healthy gut flora.
    • Anti-inflammatory: Many of these ingredients have anti-inflammatory properties, which can be beneficial for reducing gut inflammation.
  • Nutritional Support:
    • Vitamins and Minerals: This smoothie is rich in vitamins (A, C, K) and minerals (iron, calcium, magnesium), supporting overall health, including immune function, bone health, and muscle function.
    • Healthy Fats: Chia seeds contain omega-3 fatty acids, which are beneficial for heart health and cognitive function.
    • Energy Boost: The natural sugars from fruits provide a quick energy source, while the protein from collagen and the electrolytes in coconut water aid in recovery and hydration, making it an excellent post-workout drink.
  • Weight Management:
    • Low Calorie but Nutrient-Dense: This smoothie is filling due to its fiber and protein content, which can aid in weight loss by reducing overall calorie intake without sacrificing nutritional value.

The Collage Powder I Used

I used Vital Protein collagen powder. I used the unsweetened and unflavored version because it didn’t impact the taste of the smoothie.

The collagen powder also contains protein and it’s from a grass-fed source.

When To Drink This Collagen Smoothie:

I personally consumed this smoothie for 3 days in a row in the morning, along with a healthy breakfast.

After my 3rd day, my nails improved from the damage caused by acrylic nails.

As for my skin, I had 2 pimples on my face; one on my upper lip, and the other one under my chin.

Both improved dramatically after consuming this smoothie.

I regret not taking before and after pictures, because I was so impressed by the result.

Ingredient Swaps And Smoothie Variations:

There are many different ways of customizing this smoothie because the key ingredient (collagen) is practically flavorless, so it mixes well with many flavors.

Here are some ideas for you that I have tested:

  • Swap Pineapple: I have tested both pineapple and mango, and they both work very well in this smoothie.
  • Swap The Blueberries: You can use any other berry you like or have. For a dark velvety color, use blackberries. Just make sure they are frozen!
  • The Base: I used coconut water as the base, but you can use plain water or even dairy-free milk. Coconut is a fantastic choice.
  • Creamier Smoothie: Add 1/2 cup of yogurt, and reduce the coconut water to 1/2 cup, for a creamier and satisfying smoothie.
  • Nut Butter: Swap the chia seeds for nut butter. I tested almond butter and loved it in this smoothie. Just make sure the nut butter is unsweetened!
