How To Make a Smoothie Without Bits

How to make a smoothie without bits – are you sick of ending up with bits in your smoothie, when all you wanted was a smooth smoothie?
Don’t worry, you will get some expert tips from professional smoothie makers.

There certainly isn’t anything worse than drinking a smoothie and having to chew or spit out bits. Nobody wants a clumpy smoothie either.

So, let’s find out why that happens sometimes!

How To Make a Smoothie Without Bits

Why Does My Smoothie Have Bits?

The tops reasons for why your smoothie may have bits are:

  • You are not using a strong blender
  • You are not blending long enough
  • Your ingredient combination is wrong
  • The smoothie contains too many leafy greens
  • You are not using thickening ingredients (e.g bananas, nut butter, yogurt, apple sauce, starchy vegetables, etc)

Ensure that your ingredients to water ratio are also right. Otherwise, you will end up blending water with some ingredients. It’s hard to make a smoothie smooth with too much liquid.

How Do You Make a Smoothie Smooth?

How To Make a Smoothie Without Bits

There are several crucial steps you need to take if you want to make your smoothie smooth and without bits.

  • Use a quality blender, like a Vitamix
  • Avoid adding too many leafy greens
  • Avoid adding too much liquid. Add the liquid in stages if necessary.
  • Ensure that you have the right components – a. thickening agent b. liquid c. sweeteners d. everything else

Keep the blending process sweet and short. But not too short. Blend the ingredients on the highest setting, but not for too long, otherwise, you risk foamy smoothies, as well.
The balance is key.

We also recommend people invest in a good quality blender. Because, if you have a quality blender, it basically cuts all the potential issues that could happen in half.

How Do you Make Smoothies Less Seedy?

How To Make a Smoothie Without Bits

If your smoothie is gritty or you can feel bits of seeds etc – here’s what you need to do:

  • You have gotten your ingredient quantities wrong. Protein powders can often cause gritty smoothies, so make sure you use just the right amount.
  • You haven’t blended long enough to break through your seeded fruits.
  • Your smoothie is too watery – so your blender finds it hard to blend everything well enough. Reduce the amount of liquid you are adding.
  • Reduce the number of seeded fruits you use. Use 1 serving, especially if you don’t have a quality blender.

A quality blender typically reduces the number of issues that can occur with smoothies, especially when it comes down to breaking down the smoothie ingredients.
But, even with a quality blender, you must get your ingredient quantities correct.

How Do You Get Rid Of Ice Chunks In a Smoothie?

We have personally had this issue many times. Typically, the reason why you end up with ice chunks in your smoothie is that you are either not blending long enough, you have added too much ice, or your blender isn’t strong enough.
We found that the biggest reason why some smoothies have bits of ice is because of the quality of the blender. A quality blender such as Vitamix should break through the ice easily.

When we started making smoothies, we used to use a $35 bucks blender, and we found that it was hard for it to break through harder ingredients, particularly ice.
